Yes, that's right. It looks like I'm quitting RuneScape for good at this point. I don't quite know what happened, I just got so bored of it. I think the failed fire cape attempt affected me more than I thought at the time (I knew I should've tried again right away instead of waiting), but I think I've also sort of outgrown the game. It's a pity that I'm just walking away after all I accomplished, but at the same time, it's only a game; I really don't care much anymore, sad though that may be.
And who knows? Maybe I will come back at some point. When winter break rolls around, I might feel like playing more RS. But for now, not only am I bored of the grind, school also started recently. School definitely takes precedence over gaming for me.
So anyway, I won't be updating this or playing RuneScape much anymore... not that it really matters to my nonexistent readers, but I thought I'd put this up as a formality. :P
Happy 'Scaping!

70 Prayer was worth it
I got assigned skeletons for slayer yesterday, so I decided to test out my absolute max hit. Here's what I came up with:

That's with the following bonuses:
And on my way back to Canifis to get another filler assignment, I found this:

I submitted a bug report; we'll see if they actually do anything about it. It's harmless enough to us players, but it kind of reflects badly on Jagex's quality control in my opinion.
That's with the following bonuses:
- Super strength potion (to 98 strength at the time, I think)
- Salve amulet (e) = +20%
- Piety = +23%

Jad: "Fire cape? I think not!"
Well, I failed on my first attempt at the fight caves. I got a perfect spawn for Jad, got to the healers quickly, and shot them all... and then, like pretty much everyone else, got distracted by the healers and messed up my prayer switching. I died in two hits. Oh well, could've been worse. :P
Anyway, here are some screenshots for you:
My setup, in case you're interested in that.

I've got thumbnails working now. Sweet.
My perfect spawn that I'll be extremely lucky to get again:

102 hitpoints, roflcopter hax!!!11 ^^
And the end:

Of course, it's not really the end. I'm definitely going to try again, since I only used about 300 bolts and not too many potions. I can do a few more tries before I even have to start spending more money (of which I have plenty anyway, so no worries). I will get my fire cape, and when I do, it will be that much more of an achievement for me.
So... I'm going to take a break from that. I figure I need a couple of days to wind down before I try again. I'll do a bit of slayer, probably get an attack level since I'm fairly close. When I do make my next attempt, I think I'll also swap out a super restore or two for more sharks, seeing as how I didn't use very many potions. That will give me more healing without the negative effects of the saradomin brews.
Until next time....

Blessings and More Goals
I'm like, totally bummed, man. I can't bless my own gravestone! I tried last night, and it turns out that I can't. That was pretty much the main reason I got 70 prayer too. I hope I can at least repair it...
Oh, and remember how I said I have 1 major goal left? Well, I lied. Only a little bit though. I realized that I really have 3 major goals still:

- The fire cape, obviously.
- Ability to make rings of slaying.
- Varrock achievement diary.

The Return of the Wombat
Yes, I'm finally back! I apologize to you, my as-of-yet-nonexistent readers, for the long wait. After I got back from my vacation, I just got bored with the blog. I didn't feel like writing anything for a while, so I played RuneScape instead of writing about playing it. Of course, since I haven't posted in over a month, I have a lot to talk about. Let's get started...
First, level 90 defense! I got it while doing a slayer assignment to get my slayer helmet (which I did also get). There's also strength: I've gained 3 strength levels since achieving my defense goal, for a total now of 83. And I know what you're thinking right now: "He was such a fan of defense. What went wrong?"... I still am. I just recognize the merits of being balanced. I realized a while ago that I was little better than the pures who only train strength: I was still limiting myself through my training habits, only in a different way.
Then, we take a look at combat levels. I got 106 combat a little before I got the slayer helmet, then 107 some time after that. I am now 108 combat, because I finally started actually training summoning! And of course, since I'm so cheap, I'm using Tears of Guthix for the lower levels because I don't want to waste charms.
I also got a Torag's platebody and platelegs, and have been using them "around," as it were. I've noticed a huge difference, so much so that I'm thinking I'll skip dragon altogether. I do still use my rune armor when I don't need the extra defense and don't want to waste barrows degradation, but for anything that hits much damage, I'm a barrows fan all the way now. It lasts for so long that the profit I make from fighting with it is way more than enough to cover repair costs, especially since I can use my house to save some money on that. :P
Oh, and I got 66 herblore just yesterday! Super defense potions ftw! Now I need to plant a bunch of whiteberry bushes. And 70 prayer... which is totally awesome. I haven't gotten to actually try piety or gravestone blessing yet, but I'm looking forward to it at some point. I also got 77 slayer fairly recently. I think I'll try for 80, but there are no guarantees after that. And finally, air guitar!! I did a bunch of quests and went to get my last 2 songs in Keldagrim at the blast furnace and rat pits. Now I can do every emote but the skillcape ones. :-)
Now my major goal (yes, singular!) is to get that fire cape. I have 108 combat, so I can one-click the healers. I have 70 prayer, so I'll restore more points per potion dose and I don't have to worry so much about draining. I have 81 ranged, so I should be able to kill everything alright. I have 90 defense, so nothing should be able to kill me very easily, and I just got 88 hitpoints a couple of days ago (same comment).

Metal Dragons and Imperative vs. Gerund
Well, I've been having fun with my newfound ranged leetness. I've made two trips to the metal dragons in Brimhaven dungeon so far, using Emerald bolts (e) and sticking to iron dragons whenever the steel dragons give me a choice. On my second kill (on my first trip in quite a while), I got this:

This is my second dragon drop now, the first was a shield left half (also from an iron dragon). At this point I'm hoping against hope that my luck will improve a bit and I'll finally get some platelegs. Skirts are great and all, and they may even be a fifth of the price of legs, but I don't like the way skirts look on me. Yes, I did try it on and it is UGLY! I need armor that covers up my ugly virtual manly legs! I figure I'll make a couple more trips before my membership runs out, and if I get the platelegs, great. If not, I'll probably end up just selling the skirt anyway and sticking with good old rune armor for now.
I also got a prayer level (screenshot coming up), and today a clue scroll from a steel dragon which wouldn't leave me alone. Now, you'd think a clue from a steel dragon would have a pretty good reward, right? Here's what I got:

I mean, come on! Maybe it's not super-lousy, but I would expect at least a trimmed skirt or helmet, or even just a couple of firelighters. The value of this reward reward just about covered the teleports and food I used to get it... and I swear, I must have sold ten sets of rune platelegs in the last month from clue scrolls. Anyway, here's my prayer level-up too:

Now, finally, for the grammatical aspect to this post. It drives me up the wall when people say "buy this" or "sell that" constantly in a marketplace. They don't realize that what they're using is actually the imperative tense; in plain English, they're giving commands. I'm pretty sure they don't mean to tell everyone around them to buy obsidian capes or whatever, but that's essentially what they're doing. Laziness has them omitting those three letters at the end that make it a gerund: an adjective describing themselves, meaning that they are buying an obsidian cape instead of telling everyone else to do so.
Just a little while ago, I hopped worlds a few times to find someone willing to help me get into the duel arena for that pathetic clue scroll earlier, and ended up on world 100. I didn't think much of it until I went to grand exchange afterward. Almost everyone was typing out their ings! I saw one person spamming out "buy willows," but everyone else was saying their respective market messages correctly. It freaked me out a bit, but it was incredibly cool too! The theme for the world is "group questing," so it's not even like it's a big trading world. I guess questers are probably just more intelligent in general. :-D
That's it for now, just a few more days of membership left and then I'll be f2p, inactive, and going on a proper vacation. I may make another post or two in the next few days if events warrant it, but mostly I'll be trying to get as much slayer and mining done as I can. I won't be gone too long, and when I get back it'll be right back to members to try and get that fire cape! Then I'll probably try to get a slayer helm. Those sound really really cool...

My First Achievements!
Or at least, the first ones I've posted here. :P
This was just funny, although I suppose 1 experience left would have been funnier.

And the big level which I promised to post earlier:

An awesome Slayer level-up I got a few days ago:

An experience milestone:

That's it for now, I think I'll go try out my l33t ranged skills on some monsters...

Half Keys, Download Day, and a Toy Mouse
Yesterday was a pretty good day in RuneScape. I got two teeth half keys, which means two more crystal keys waiting around for me to get 80 crafting (:P). The first was from a Mysterious Old Man while I was training ranged, the second from a flesh crawler in the Stronghold of Security. As a side note, I also got the last two pieces for my skull scepter, so that's one more hard task in the Varrock achievement diary done. Now I just need to get several smithing levels.
"Download Day" is the official release of Firefox 3! It's coming up really soon and you can read about it here. Apparently Mozilla is trying to set a world record for most software downloads in a day. Sounds pretty cool to me, so I'll probably be downloading my copy on the 17th.
And finally, the toy mouse... the monsters I'm ranging don't drop toy mice as far as I know (I don't remember picking it up either), yet I found one in my inventory on the way back to the bank. I just looked up Ava's Accumulator on tip.it, and it does indeed grab toy mice occasionally. Clockwork cats too, which might be kinda cool. I imagine the cats are rather rare though.
Well, that was certainly an interesting assortment of topics. Now it's back to ranging at my secret deserted training spot, because I'm about 50k experience away from 80 ranged. I'll post a screenshot once I get it. :-)

Gobby Capes: Eww, gross!
I was at the Grand Exchange today alching some air battlestaves, and I saw this:

It's an understandable mistake, but I couldn't help laughing to myself about "Gobby Capes" and how disgusting those would probably be to wear. 'Course, they would also be easy to make: just use an old cape as a tablecloth and invite a bunch of really messy people over for dinner! That's the relatively tasteful version; you could also dip a cape into the slime pool at the bottom level of the ectofuntus or something... it all depends on what you want gobs of on your cape.
The moral of this story is "for Bob's sake, slow down a bit!"
Note: the name of the semi-guilty has been protected here, as have the content and innocent senders of other, unrelated chat messages. I believe in naming names most of the time, but this is just a minor thing worth a few laughs. If (and probably when) I catch someone doing something deserving of actual punishment, I may not be so lenient (although I'll still protect the innocent, obviously). </fine print>

Intro...
First of all, hello to anyone reading this! That probably doesn't cover anyone at the moment because this blog is brand new, but at some point people will read this, so I might as well be polite by providing the proper salutations. :-)
I am The 42nd Almighty Wombat of Doom etc. etc. (aka Wombat42). This blog will be about my various adventures, achievements, and ideas in the online game RuneScape. I am currently level 105 combat with a total level of 1755 and 243 quest points, though all that is bound to change over time. My favorite skill is Slayer, my biggest pet peeve is ppl hu dnt bothr 2 use language properly, my biggest goal at the moment is to get a fire cape, and I'm running out of things to put in this paragraph so I think I'll stop it here.
In real life, I'm quite paranoid, so I won't be telling you much about my real self. However, I can give you a vague idea of what I'm like that will still protect my identity, cloak me in a nice shroud of mystery, and, well, give you a vague idea of what I'm like. I'm a college student in my late teens with excellent grades and a major in computer programming. RuneScape fits into that as a way of learning how a MMORPG works, although it's mostly just a way for me to relax during the summer. I consider myself a very ethical person; I don't like violence, I can't stand discrimination based on anything that people can't help, and I think that everyone should be able to have freedom within reason (though that's a completely different story). I also have a very wacky sense of humor, as you've probably guessed by now. And yes, that will continue to manifest itself throughout the blog.
