Metal Dragons and Imperative vs. Gerund

Well, I've been having fun with my newfound ranged leetness. I've made two trips to the metal dragons in Brimhaven dungeon so far, using Emerald bolts (e) and sticking to iron dragons whenever the steel dragons give me a choice. On my second kill (on my first trip in quite a while), I got this:

Dragon Plateskirt!!!!!

This is my second dragon drop now, the first was a shield left half (also from an iron dragon). At this point I'm hoping against hope that my luck will improve a bit and I'll finally get some platelegs. Skirts are great and all, and they may even be a fifth of the price of legs, but I don't like the way skirts look on me. Yes, I did try it on and it is UGLY! I need armor that covers up my ugly virtual manly legs! I figure I'll make a couple more trips before my membership runs out, and if I get the platelegs, great. If not, I'll probably end up just selling the skirt anyway and sticking with good old rune armor for now.

I also got a prayer level (screenshot coming up), and today a clue scroll from a steel dragon which wouldn't leave me alone. Now, you'd think a clue from a steel dragon would have a pretty good reward, right? Here's what I got:

A bunch of junk.

I mean, come on! Maybe it's not super-lousy, but I would expect at least a trimmed skirt or helmet, or even just a couple of firelighters. The value of this reward reward just about covered the teleports and food I used to get it... and I swear, I must have sold ten sets of rune platelegs in the last month from clue scrolls. Anyway, here's my prayer level-up too:

Prayer level 67! Yay!

Now, finally, for the grammatical aspect to this post. It drives me up the wall when people say "buy this" or "sell that" constantly in a marketplace. They don't realize that what they're using is actually the imperative tense; in plain English, they're giving commands. I'm pretty sure they don't mean to tell everyone around them to buy obsidian capes or whatever, but that's essentially what they're doing. Laziness has them omitting those three letters at the end that make it a gerund: an adjective describing themselves, meaning that they are buying an obsidian cape instead of telling everyone else to do so.

Just a little while ago, I hopped worlds a few times to find someone willing to help me get into the duel arena for that pathetic clue scroll earlier, and ended up on world 100. I didn't think much of it until I went to grand exchange afterward. Almost everyone was typing out their ings! I saw one person spamming out "buy willows," but everyone else was saying their respective market messages correctly. It freaked me out a bit, but it was incredibly cool too! The theme for the world is "group questing," so it's not even like it's a big trading world. I guess questers are probably just more intelligent in general. :-D

That's it for now, just a few more days of membership left and then I'll be f2p, inactive, and going on a proper vacation. I may make another post or two in the next few days if events warrant it, but mostly I'll be trying to get as much slayer and mining done as I can. I won't be gone too long, and when I get back it'll be right back to members to try and get that fire cape! Then I'll probably try to get a slayer helm. Those sound really really cool...

My First Achievements!

Or at least, the first ones I've posted here. :P

This was just funny, although I suppose 1 experience left would have been funnier.
Ranged: 79/79 Current Xp: 1,986,063 Next Level: 1,986,068 Remainder: 5

And the big level which I promised to post earlier:
Congratulations! You've just advanced a Ranged level! You have now reached level 80.

An awesome Slayer level-up I got a few days ago:
Congratulations! You've just advanced a Slayer level! You have now reached level 75. You can now slay gargoyles.

An experience milestone:
5,000,004 Defense experience!

That's it for now, I think I'll go try out my l33t ranged skills on some monsters...

Half Keys, Download Day, and a Toy Mouse

Yesterday was a pretty good day in RuneScape. I got two teeth half keys, which means two more crystal keys waiting around for me to get 80 crafting (:P). The first was from a Mysterious Old Man while I was training ranged, the second from a flesh crawler in the Stronghold of Security. As a side note, I also got the last two pieces for my skull scepter, so that's one more hard task in the Varrock achievement diary done. Now I just need to get several smithing levels.

"Download Day" is the official release of Firefox 3! It's coming up really soon and you can read about it here. Apparently Mozilla is trying to set a world record for most software downloads in a day. Sounds pretty cool to me, so I'll probably be downloading my copy on the 17th.

And finally, the toy mouse... the monsters I'm ranging don't drop toy mice as far as I know (I don't remember picking it up either), yet I found one in my inventory on the way back to the bank. I just looked up Ava's Accumulator on tip.it, and it does indeed grab toy mice occasionally. Clockwork cats too, which might be kinda cool. I imagine the cats are rather rare though.

Well, that was certainly an interesting assortment of topics. Now it's back to ranging at my secret deserted training spot, because I'm about 50k experience away from 80 ranged. I'll post a screenshot once I get it. :-)

Gobby Capes: Eww, gross!

I was at the Grand Exchange today alching some air battlestaves, and I saw this:

Anonymous Player: Buyin gobby cape max

It's an understandable mistake, but I couldn't help laughing to myself about "Gobby Capes" and how disgusting those would probably be to wear. 'Course, they would also be easy to make: just use an old cape as a tablecloth and invite a bunch of really messy people over for dinner! That's the relatively tasteful version; you could also dip a cape into the slime pool at the bottom level of the ectofuntus or something... it all depends on what you want gobs of on your cape.

The moral of this story is "for Bob's sake, slow down a bit!"

Note: the name of the semi-guilty has been protected here, as have the content and innocent senders of other, unrelated chat messages. I believe in naming names most of the time, but this is just a minor thing worth a few laughs. If (and probably when) I catch someone doing something deserving of actual punishment, I may not be so lenient (although I'll still protect the innocent, obviously). </fine print>

Intro...

First of all, hello to anyone reading this! That probably doesn't cover anyone at the moment because this blog is brand new, but at some point people will read this, so I might as well be polite by providing the proper salutations. :-)

I am The 42nd Almighty Wombat of Doom etc. etc. (aka Wombat42). This blog will be about my various adventures, achievements, and ideas in the online game RuneScape. I am currently level 105 combat with a total level of 1755 and 243 quest points, though all that is bound to change over time. My favorite skill is Slayer, my biggest pet peeve is ppl hu dnt bothr 2 use language properly, my biggest goal at the moment is to get a fire cape, and I'm running out of things to put in this paragraph so I think I'll stop it here.

In real life, I'm quite paranoid, so I won't be telling you much about my real self. However, I can give you a vague idea of what I'm like that will still protect my identity, cloak me in a nice shroud of mystery, and, well, give you a vague idea of what I'm like. I'm a college student in my late teens with excellent grades and a major in computer programming. RuneScape fits into that as a way of learning how a MMORPG works, although it's mostly just a way for me to relax during the summer. I consider myself a very ethical person; I don't like violence, I can't stand discrimination based on anything that people can't help, and I think that everyone should be able to have freedom within reason (though that's a completely different story). I also have a very wacky sense of humor, as you've probably guessed by now. And yes, that will continue to manifest itself throughout the blog.
